I used to have a job. On days like this one — flat blue water, a few sailboats just far enough out to look like they’re minding their own business — I’d be stuck inside a building with no windows worth looking through.
One time I actually said something to my boss. Told him it was a perfect day, the whole staff should just take it off, go enjoy it before it’s gone. He looked at me like I’d suggested we burn the building down.
Shortly after that, I found myself suddenly working as a full-time artist. Stupid boss — he’s one of those guys who has his priorities all messed up.
This piece, Take The Day Off, is what came out of that. It’s a moment I caught on a calm, ordinary beach day — the kind of day that doesn’t announce itself as special until you’re stuck somewhere else wishing you were in it.
Take The Day Off is available now as a framed print, canvas, or poster in several sizes. [View the piece here →
