Maybe there is a God

I was about six years old the first time I walked onto a beach and got dazzled by sunlight sparkling on clear turquoise water. It’s the first time I remember noticing that the world could be beautiful. That moment did something to me — it made me aware of myself as the person standing there, reacting to it. Some kind of self-awareness clicked on that hadn’t been there before.I’m still not entirely sure how to put it into words, but that day left me with a feeling that’s stuck ever since: I wasn’t alone, and there was more going on in life than I understood. This photograph is my attempt to chase that same feeling — light breaking through, water, sky, and the sense that something bigger is looking back.
