Melbourne skyline wall art
Some mornings just work out. I took my wife for a walk south of Elwood Beach toward Brighton one Sunday, and the whole Melbourne skyline showed up clear across the water, with a little wooden pier running out into the bay in front of it – two skylines, really, one man-made and one natural, echoing each other.
I still can’t tell you exactly why this photo works. Beauty doesn’t come with an answer key. I studied art for years and nobody ever handed me the formula for why one arrangement of sky, water, and a few people fishing off a pier makes you feel something and another doesn’t.
Looking at it now I just feel content. Sun’s up, the water’s calm, the city’s sitting quietly in the distance minding its own business. That’s the whole story, really.
